Ye Maaya chesave Review By Nani

Nani prince mahesh DB lo naa co dber, Mahesh fan.. thana review meekosam pedathunna.. click readmore

I am fed up watching Telugu Movie love stories which always have cinematic dialogues, scenes, fights and climax, but Ye maaya chesave is a different one. It deals with the emotions of the lead. I haven't seen any movie which straight away deals with genuine emotions of the boy and the girl. I like the way Gowtham handled love tracks in Gharshana, Surya S/o Krishnan, his dialogues creates both impact and magic. This time Gowtham came up with a full length love story. I was very much excited to watch this movie on the big screen and i am still excited to watch it for the second time again.

Plot

The story of the movie is very much simple and straight forward. Karthik (Naga Chaitanya), a telugu and hindu boy completes his Mechanical Engineering and his ambition is to make films (director). Jessie (Samantha), a malayali christian girl works in a software company. She is two years older to Karthik. Karthik falls for Jessie, the moment he sees her. Karthik proposes Jessie, the rest of the story is whether Jessie loves Karthik and will they be able to get married?

The story is thin, but the director neither concentrated on the age concept nor the differences of their caste, he tried to extract the emotions of a boy and girl who fell in love. The dialogues between the lead occupy most of the screen time. Trust me each dialogue is a worthy one. There isn't a single scene where i thought dialogues were boring. But there will always be two sides for a coin. There are instances and there are people who got the feeling that the complete movie is a crap and trash. There are people who specially mentioned that this movie is lovable for people who are in love. I would not agree with this one. People who can feel emotions, who are sensitive, who are patient to watch/ listen would definitely love this one. You need not be in love to understand love, to feel love or simply evaluate their emotions. It is a feel.

Performances

Naga Chaitanya, definitely improved a lot from his debut movie. He is natural and almost a perfect fit for the role Karthik. But he has to work a lot on his expressions. This movie has many dialogues and close up shots, his dialogue delivery is good but he has to improve a bit while doing emotional scenes and close up shots. His body language has improved a lot when compared to his previous movie.

Samantha has done 100% justice to her role Jessie. The body and soul of the movie is Jessie's character and she has given life to the character. She is gorgeous and her expressions were awesome. Thanks to Nalini Sriram, the costume designer, samantha is an absolute stunner in sarees. Her smile, beauty and expressions would definitely drive the youth to watch the movie multiple times. Dubbing by Chinmayi is perfect, I guess she is the one who dubbed for Sameera in Surya S/o Krishnan. I simply loved her voice.

Krishnudu, Sanjay, Devan are okay for their roles. Puri Jagannath, Simbhu and Trisha did cameos. Rest of them are suitable for their roles.

Technical Departments

Music: If Gowtham is the body of the film then AR Rahman is the soul. Such is the impact he created with his music. Each and every song is beautifully composed, though required multiple hearings and equally picturized. BGM of the movie is soulful. Though Gowtham prefers less BGM in his movies, ARR has given terrific BGM where ever required.

Photography: Visually the film is an eye feast. Photography by Manoj Paramahansa if of top notch. It was he who is responsible for the visual treat. The scenes in Alleppy, shots at US what not each and every scene is perfectly shot.

Dialogues need to have a special mention. These kind of script really needs good dialogues to keep you engaging. The dialogues were simple and straight. Great work by Gowtham and Anuradha Sriram.

Screenplay-Direction: Gowtham is one of the directors who straight away deal his subject with minimal deviations, sometimes without any deviation. He should definitely be appreciated for the guts to take up a subject where conversations play a major role. Gowtham executed his script perfectly. Believe me I fell in love with the characters he wrote. Jessie should be one of the complicated characters I have seen, all praises for Gowtham who handled her pretty well. I am not sure if we will be seeing Samantha that beautiful after watching her in Ye maaya chesave. For me it was like a visual poetry. Gowtham emerges as a perfect captain, it was completely his film.

Highlights

There are many scenes I loved watching, but I am just writing few scenes that really stole my heart.

1. Introduction scene in church
2. Karthik proposing Jessie
3. Karthik and Jessie in train.
4. Jessie accepting love at alleppy.
5. Conversation between Karthik and Jessie at their breakup.
6. Conversation between Karthik and Jessie at US.

Out of all the dialogues I couldn’t resist writing the dialogue "Velli Pelli Chesuko Jessie, Nuvvemi nannu Permission adagadaniki raaledu kada".

Songs on Screen

Every song is a visual treat, I loved vintunnava audio a lot, but on screen Vintunnava, Aaromalee, Kundanapu were awesome. Manasa song was shot beautifully but I personally felt that song could be trimmed (a bit song would be enough I guess).

On the whole, I liked this movie a lot. I feel like watching it multiple times. This is neither an entertaining movie nor a serious movie, it isn’t a classic like Geethanjali either but still it has a kind of magic in it which drives you crazy. Stop comparing the movie with Geethanjali atleast now. Ye maaya chesave has simple sweet conversations, differences, break-up, heart touching scnes, lighter comedy and conflicts. It straight away deals with the complex and confused state of a girl who would like to fall in love but always thinks about complications of being in love. It also deals with girl in love but in a complicated state to marry. This is probably the first movie where the director handles two straight forward characters in love and this should be the first movie with that many conversations on screen. There were comments that the pace of the movie is disturbing, I wouldn’t care for the pace where dialogues are driving me crazy. I personally don’t like slow movies but I fell in love with Ye maaya chesave. Special mention to titles at the beginning, they were simple yet amazing.

My Rating: 4/5

PS: This should probably the best rating I have ever given for a telugu movie that I have reviewed. Gowtham Menon Rocks and this movie isn’t for everyone.
